My Old Friend

Oh, I miss thee, my old friend,
The laughter along the shore,
When time was meaningless,
Not an end,
Our souls never bored,
Never to repent or mourn.
Oh, I miss thee, my old friend,
The mysteries thou hast
Mastered so well,
Now lost, forgotten,
Or perhaps remembered only by the ocean
And those who within dwell.
Thou hast taught me so many things,
"Easier said than done,
It seems, in so many ways."
No wings, and yet
I've craved for the endless skies,
So many "ifs," so many "whys."
Oh, I miss thee, my old friend,
I've lost my trail so many times.
I've wandered
The darkest corners of
Thought and mind.
I still see,
Care not that I've been blind.
I've died a million times.
Shackled by dread and fear,
I've been lost
And yet, as thou didst foretell,
I am
Still here.
